Chung received a $1,500 scholarship, courtesy of event sponsor AMN Healthcare, presented by Carol Burke, AMN’s Senior Director of Marketing and Communication, at the HCC Finest Awards Show gala, February 7, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Turf Club. Chung, president of her high school’s pre-med club and long-time volunteer at the Rady Children’s Hospital as a Patient Care Companion, is planning a career in health care as a physician. Of special note, the judges were unanimous in their decision that Chung was the most deserving entrant. “I’m proud to be here to help further one very special student’s aspirations to make a difference…” said Burke. “I know that I speak on behalf of AMN Healthcare, our president and CEO, Susan Nowakowski, and our team members who are passionate about helping to improve patient care when I say that we are proud of HCC’s efforts to elevate health care and health care communications to the highest level possible. That commitment aligns with AMN’s efforts to promote careers in the health care arena and bring attention to the growing nursing, physician and allied health care shortage in America. Through various means, including our sponsorship of the National Council on Physician and Nurse Supply and by providing numerous scholarships last year, AMN continues to do its part to promote health care careers and solutions locally and nationally.” Dale E. Thomas, a teacher at Mira Mesa High School, recommended Chung and describes her as a uniquely intelligent young lady with tremendous insight, energy and strong personal goals. Thomas stated that Chung has a record of outstanding performance in the classroom and that her “…conscientious contributions to the learning community as a whole represent the epitome of what a high school teacher desires and expects from any high school student.” “Awarding this scholarship to one deserving student at our Annual Finest Awards event is the highlight of our year,” added Jamee Lynn Smith, 2007 HCC president. “Through the generosity of our sponsors and member organizations we’ve been able to continually increase our commitment to this scholarship and the breadth of our service.” About AMN Healthcare AMN Healthcare Services, Inc. is the largest temporary healthcare staffing company in the United States.
